FUEL

The Ooni Pro Pizza Oven has many fuel options:

  • gas-burner
  • pellet-burner
  • real-wood logs
  • lumpwood

The fuel is placed at the back of the oven.  The Ooni Pro gas burner is similar in design to the Ooni 3 gas-burner.  This oven has a wood grate to hold the real wood logs, lump wood and kindling.  This grate can also be used to start off the flame in the oven.

As with the Ooni 3, the wood-pellet holder can contain enough fuel for about 5 to 10 minutes of heat and flame but will need to be constantly checked and re-filled.

The real wood logs won't need as much maintenance and one large log mixed with some lump wood should provide enough heat and flame for two quick pizza cooks.

EFFICIENCY OF THE FUEL

The real-wood option on the Ooni Pro Pizza Oven is my favourite as it takes cooking pizza to another level.

The real logs are very efficient and ensure the oven retains its heat for longer, during and after the pizza cook.

The most favoured option is to cook with some lump wood mixed in with the real-wood logs.

HEAT RETENTION

The Ooni Pro Pizza Oven takes about 25 minutes to heat up the stone to 430c with the flame on full strength using a real-wood flame or the wood-pellets.

The pizza stones are nearly double the thickness of those on the Ooni 3 and Ooni Koda Pizza Oven and are split into 4 pieces.

This provides a greater amount of stone heat retention during and after the cook.

The stone after the cook, for me, reduces to 400c so I then pop in some lumpwood and then a log to increase the temperature for the next cook and that normally takes 10 minutes.

EASE OF USE

This oven is large inside and gives you the option of cooking not just pizza but other great options such as loaves of bread and hotpot dishes.

It's easy to cook pizza in this oven due to its size - this allows the pizza to be moved away from the flame or even lifted toward the flame when required. It also has two doors, one with glass and a thermometer dial that registers the air temperature inside the oven and the other, a pizza door.

PORTABILITY

The Ooni Pro Pizza Oven is portable but it's not that easy to carry.  I move my Pro around on a stainless steel catering trolley.

The stone and the chimney can also be removed, making the oven lighter and easier to transport. The three legs fold underneath the oven.

A carrier bag/cover can also be purchased for the Ooni Pro.

CONCLUSION

The Ooni Pro Pizza Oven is suitable for both beginners and more advanced pizza cooks due to its large oven size and range of fuel options.
