OONI 3 PORTABLE PIZZA OVEN
The Ooni 3 Pizza Oven has both a gas-burner and a pellet-burner option. The fuel-burners are slotted into the back of the oven and can be easily switched over.
The gas burners are directed toward the mid-centre of the oven via two gas outlets. A flame guard is needed to protect the pizza from the two strong flames, particularly if the flame is on full power. The gas ignition button isn't reliable on my oven and I now light the oven with a match.
The wood-pellet holder can contain enough fuel for about 5 to 10 minutes of heat and flame but will need to be constantly checked and re-filled.
EFFICIENCY OF THE FUEL
The gas burner, compared to the pellet-burner is more efficient and easier to maintain a constant flame and temperature.
The Ooni 3 Pizza Oven takes about 25 minutes to heat up the stone to 430c with the flame on full strength using the gas or pellets.
The after-cook temperature of the stone will reduce quickly and so the climate and the strength of the flame during the cook will determine the stone temperature after the pizza cook and how long it would take to re-heat.
EASE OF USE
If you are new to pizza making and a complete pizza oven novice I would recommend using the gas burner to start off your pizza cooking journey. In my experience, the wood-pellets require more effort to manage the flame for the cook. The oven can also hold a sizzler pan for cooking fish, meat and vegetable dishes.
The Ooni 3 Pizza Oven is a very portable and easy to carry oven. The Ooni Pizza Stone and the chimney can also be removed, making the oven even lighter and easier to transport. The three legs fold underneath the oven. A carrier bag/cover can be purchased for the Ooni 3.
The Ooni 3 Pizza Oven is a super, lightweight and portable pizza oven that can cook pizza at a high temperature, particularly using the wood-pellets.
