If you've never cooked or thought you could ever cook a Calzone then read on.
For some reason, I had it in my mind that I wasn't able to cook a calzone. That it would be too difficult to cook a folded pizza in an outside pizza oven.
I've created a Pizza for Beginners YouTube playlist that gives some great tips to help your learning to cook pizza journey! Enjoy your Pizza Cooking!
I've only made it once before and that was a while ago using the Ooni 3 Pizza Oven and that was fine - it cooked well but I'd developed a thought in my head that it was a lot harder than making pizza.
So, as this is a learning to cook pizza resource site I wanted to try again and face whatever was putting me off cooking a calzone.

There are a few tips that I learnt from the cook:
- Place the filling on one side of the round pizza dough base.
- Don't put too much filling inside - I kept it quite small as there's not much time in the oven to get the heat to penetrate through your folded envelope of dough and filling.
- You have a choice of whether to place extra mozzarella and sauce on the top. I quite liked the idea - like a double-decker calzone!
- When you cook the Calzone in the outside pizza oven, be careful with those calzone folded edges - they are sharper and tend to burn easier when they are nearer to the flame than the other crusty parts.
It tasted great and it's a nice change to offer friends and family when you have a fun pizza party too!
